HB 2362 appears to be still another attempt by a legislator to assume management of the state's wildlife resources. Prior to his takeover of those complex responsibilities, I want to know the extent of his education in this field of study. Kansas is fortunate to have some of the most renowned wildlife biologists in the nation heading up the KDWP. While I do not always like what they tell me, I eventually realize that they have the best interests of me and our wildlife resources in mind.
It must be recognized that only a portion of the state is overburdened with deer and any legislation that is aimed at reducing numbers must be confined to those areas. KDWP is keenly aware of that and has the scientific expertise along with collected data regarding conservation practices that is required to make informed decisions.
It is highly apparent that a minority special interest group has requested this legislation and event more apparent when they include tax expemption status. HB 2362 must be defeated.
