  • Kansas economy vs national

The November unemployment rate in Kansas was 4.8 percent, up from 3.8 percent last year, but still well below the current national rate of 6.5 percent.  How do you think the Kansas economic outlook through 2009 will fare versus the national?

  • State following federal example

To tide over the current year's Kansas budget deficit at least until February, the State Finance Council just authorized a $250 million loan while Governor Sebelius was recommending $400 million. This same time last year, the state borrowed $350 million that still has not been paid off. What do you think about it?

  • New transportation program

Although the state budget is expected to end with a $141 million deficit this year and roughly a $1 billion deficit next year, Senate President Steve Morris said a new mulit-year transportation program is needed and "We don’t want our contractors to get discouraged if there’s no plan in place and start downsizing."  What do you think?

  • State cuts worsen recession?

Governor Sebelius recently attended a conference of state governors in Philadelphia at which President-elect Obama spoke. Today's Topeka Capital-Journal (12/2/08) said Sebelius remembered Obama cautioning that states "could deepen the U.S. recession by imposing big cuts in public services". Do you agree?
